Eugénie’s Confusion, GUERLAIN
France, 2013
This object, crafted for the private collections of the perfumer Guerlain marks the 160th anniversary of the famous Bee Bottle, created for the wedding of Napoleon III.
The complex forms and enigmatic reflections of this piece evoke troubled and inscrutable emotions, reflecting the thwarted destiny of Empress Eugénie.

Technique
The slab of black glass framed in stainless steel was achieved through thermal compression moulding of the glass. The “pools” of perfume were fashioned from solid glass blocks and polished by hand.
