Creation
Chapelle de Bousselargues
Blesle – France, 2004
This 12th century church has an exceptional collection of murals. The minimalist style adopted for the new stained glass windows allows the frescos to remain visible while introducing a distinctly contemporary element. In each window, a monochromatic pane of glass is intersected by an optical glass bar. The solar rays create a rainbow projected onto the floor and walls of the church. This rainbow, the symbol of the Covenant between God and Man, evolves continuously, creating a poetic meditative spectacle.
Technique
The panes were made of thermoformed industrial glass or hand-blown antique red glass. The bars of polished optical glass were fashioned to act as prisms.
