Montbeton Chapel

France

2004

This large glass altarpiece structures the space of the new contemporary chapel at the Foreign Missions Society. As well as a central cross, it bears a map of Asia, the region of the world where the missionaries of this Catholic order are particularly active. Its red colour, which is a symbol of good luck in China, gives the space a dynamic sculptural power.

Techniques:
This triple laminated glass complex was coloured using the copper red and silver-stain yellow medieval techniques. The subtlety of the yellow and red shading was obtained by acid-etching the coloured layer.
